Huge Extension Handed Out By Boston Celtics

The Boston Celtics made a couple of huge moves before the season that have solidified them as clear and away the team to beat in the Eastern Conference. One of those acquisitions, five-time All-Defensive Team star Jrue Holiday has agreed to a four-year, $135 million extension.

“Since I came here, It’s only been love. I love this city, I love this organization, I love the players, and I love our fans. Our only goal is to raise that banner," said Holiday Thursday morning, saying he wants to win "multiple rings" with the Celtics.

"I think knowing that whatever we build here, and whatever happens this season, is just going to continue to grow and get better in the seasons after that."

And from the Celtics' perspective, they are thrilled to have locked up such a key to their future.

“In addition to being one of the more accomplished players in the league, Jrue is an elite teammate and competitor," said team president Brad Stevens. "He is simply a person who raises everyone’s level around him. He combines an unselfishness to do whatever is best for the team with an edge to take on any challenge at any time. We are grateful that Jrue is a Celtic."

A team that can't be too grateful about it is the Milwaukee Bucks, who shockingly dealt their defensive stalwart away in the Damian Lillard trade before the season, only to see him ultimately land with their chief competitor in the East. So while this new extension is a huge W for the Celtics and Holiday, it's a gigantic L for the Bucks.
