Warriors Rumors: Dejounte Murray Heads To Golden State in Proposed Blockbuster
The Golden State Warriors are at a crossroads. Their aging core seems to have reached a turning point. Klay Thompson is a free agent, and it's unclear what direction the team will be heading as they try to salvage some years of contention for Steph Curry's final few prime seasons in the NBA.
It's quite possible that big changes will be coming this offseason, and Greg Swartz of Bleacher Report figures this proposed blockbuster can help keep the Warriors' window of contention open:
GS Warriors Receive:
- Dejounte Murray
Atlanta Hawks Receive:
- Jonathan Kuminga
- Moses Moody
- Gary Payton II
- 2025 first-round pick (unprotected)
This trade gets another All-Star to team up with Steph in the backcourt, and takes plenty of playmaking and scoring pressure off the 15-year Dubs' veteran. As Swartz notes, this would give Curry more time to focus on shooting instead of playmaking. And as the top shooter in NBA history, that's certainly not a bad thing.
Even if Thompson decided to stick around for a hometown discount, he can officially turn over the shooting guard spot (to Curry) and slot in at small forward.
For the Hawks, they are thought to prefer to trade Trae Young rather than Murray, but this deal would get them a complete re-tooling of the roster around Trae, adding some high-upside youth and a potentially top-flight first-rounder.
