Hawks Rumors: Fire Sale Coming In Atlanta: Only One Player "Untouchable"

The Atlanta Hawks are looking to break up their backcourt of Trae Young and Dejounte Murray. This we know. But we're hearing now that a full-on fire sale may be coming to the ATL sooner than later. And only one player appears "untouchable", according to a report from Jonathan Givony and Jeremy Woo of ESPN.

Jalen Johnson made a huge leap this season, going from an end-of-the-rotation player averaging five points, to a key starter and a large piece of the future for the Hawks. He jumped up to 16 points per game on 51% shooting and 35% from three, with 8.7 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 1.2 steals in 33 minutes per game.

Whether it's as a scorer, defender or playmaker, Johnson showed the ability to do it all in his third NBA season.

“He can guard one through four, even sometimes the five," said teammate De'Andre Hunter. "He’s always in the passing lanes, he’s athletic, he blocks shots. Having someone like that next to you gives you confidence to be a better defender and also gives the team confidence to defend better.”

And as a playmaker? “Whether you want to call it playmaking or facilitating I think he’s getting more and more comfortable — and our team is getting more comfortable — with him having the ball in his hands,” said head coach Quin Snyder.

Now the 22-year-old is an emerging star in the league, and whatever the Hawks do this offseason—likely quite a bit, as "A full-blown fire sale seems likely on the horizon" per Sidery—one player who won't be going anywhere is the 6'9" versatile forward Johnson.
