NBA Rumors: Top 3 Landing Spots for Free Agent Tobias Harris
Tobias Harris was often the scapegoat among Philadelphia 76ers fans, but as much for his massive $180 million contract that he simply couldn't live up to, as for anything he did on the court (though his final playoffs in Philly was a bit of a disaster).
But now that his huge cap hit is off the books, the Sixers will look to move on to spend their money on a true superstar, while Harris will look for greener pastures where he could be more fully appreciated for what he does bring to the floor — a 6'9" forward who can defend, score the ball, rebound and dish it at a reasonable clip, as well as hit threes at a more than passable rate.
Here are the top 3 teams with cap space that will be on Harris's radar (and vice-versa) when free agency hits in July:
Detroit Pistons
This one's a natural, as the Pistons really want to re-load with some veteran talent to help them start winning some games. Add to that, Harris spent parts of three seasons in the Motor City, so the two sides are familiar with each other. He's just entering his age-32 season, not too old yet to help show these young Pistons a thing or two.
Oklahoma City Thunder
Another team with some cash to spend this summer, the Thunder are led by guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, at center with Chet Holmgren, and on the wing with 6'5" forward Jalen Williams. Imagine adding a 6'9" forward like Harris as a fourth option. It could be the missing piece for OKC.
Charlotte Hornets
They're about to lose power forward Miles Bridges to free agency, and with money to spend, they could fill that gaping hole in their starting lineup and on the scoresheet with Harris.
Wherever he lands, let's hope that Harris finds a bit more love from the fans, as he showed his exasperation with the City of Brotherly Love brethren last year:
"Casual Sixers fans, they'll trade me for a Crumbl Cookie."
