Report: “All Indications Are” That Donovan Mitchell Has Made Decision on Future

One of the biggest questions surrounding this offseason is what will happen with the future of Cleveland Cavaliers superstar Donovan Mitchell? He's eligible for a huge extension as he is set to enter the final year of his contract. But will he be amenable to staying in Cleveland long-term and sign a new deal?

That question seems to have been answered, as reported by Matt Moore of The Action Network:

It would put shockwaves through the league if Donovan Mitchell didn't agree to a "3+1" max contract extension for three years with a player option.

Kenny Atkinson was hired last week and was known to be Mitchell's preferred choice for the next head coach. All indications are that the Cavs are going to get to keep Mitchell.

With Mitchell apparently deciding to forego the other big-name markets that have been interested in him, the next question for the Cavs is what will happen next with Darius Garland?

Those trade talks should start heating up for the Cleveland point guard, as his agent Rich Paul has shouted from the rooftops that if Mitchell re-signs, there won't be enough touches in the backcourt for his man Darius, and they will demand a trade. Garland was an All-Star before the arrival of Mitchell in Cleveland, but since then his assists have taken a significant dip, and his points as well.

Mitchell averaged 26.6 points, 5.1 rebounds and 6.1 assists in another All-Star season in Cleveland. It's certainly looking like he and Evan Mobley will be the faces of the franchise moving forward.
