Report: Russell Westbrook Is Finished With the Clippers

Just a day after opting into his $4 million deal for the coming season, Russell Westbrook has now learned that he and that contract will be traded shortly by the Los Angeles Clippers.

Shams Charania reported today that the Clippers and Westbrook are actively working on a trade.

The Denver Nuggets were interested in signing the former 9-time All-Star before he opted in to his $4M deal, according to Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports. Russ is reportedly mutually interested in joining Denver, and the two sides will try to figure out a way to see if they can make it happen.

Westbrook had a difficult season this past year in LA, particularly after the Clippers obtained James Harden shortly after the start of the season.

The team lost its first five games with Harden and Westbrook starting together in the backcourt, before Westbrook was coerced to move to the second unit. Reports have said that the team continually needed to convince him to stay in a bench role, something he was not very keen on.

He finished the season with career lows all across the board, playing just 22.5 minutes per game, averaging 11.1 points, and 4.5 assists, along with 5.0 rebounds.
