Warriors Rumors: Jimmy Butler Linked to Golden State
A very intriguing scenario emerged during a discussion on the future of the Golden State Warriors on 95.7 The Game on Thursday. The name of Jimmy Butler has been raised by some around the team, and the possibility of bringing him in to join Steph Curry & Co.
"Jimmy Butler's name has popped up in the conversation...I think it's a fit on paper, but I'm not sure how he fits into that locker room as the alpha personality that he is and I don't know if after all the wear and tear on his knees the Warriors would want to give him that… pic.twitter.com/qedW7QcAJQ

ESPN insider Nick Friedell said, "Jimmy Butler's name has popped up in the conversation...I think it's a fit on paper, but I'm not sure how he fits into that locker room as the alpha personality that he is and I don't know if after all the wear and tear on his knees, the Warriors would want to give him that extension. That would scare the hell out of me."
In regards to the locker room fit—can you imagine two alpha personalities like Butler and Draymond Green butting heads? It could get pretty explosive.
With Butler expected to demand a two-year max extension this summer worth $113 million, it's been suggested that the Miami Heat don't want to give it to him, leading to trade speculation. And this isn't the first time that Butler-to-Golden State has been brought up.
Anthony Slater of The Athletic also opined two weeks back that "if the Heat shop Jimmy Butler, I would expect the Warriors to enter the conversation to at least some degree."
The big caveat here is that Butler is going into his age-35 season, and has played less than 65 games in each year since 2018-19. Will the Dubs, who are already in deep tax apron territory, be willing to shell out that kind of extension to an injury-prone, aging star?
If the Warriors are going to give it one more big push, however, to try to win another title before Curry's window closes, it would be hard to imagine a better fit and sidekick for him than Jimmy Buckets.
