3 Potential Landing Spots for Hawks' Clint Capela
Atlanta Hawks center Clint Capela is officially on the trade market—again—as he has been for a couple of years now. So says ESPN's Zach Lowe and numerous other basketball insiders. The 30-year-old big man is entering the final year of his contract, worth $22.3 million.
The Hawks have hit a bit of a reset button after trading Dejounte Murray, and it's apparent they will not be re-upping with Capela.
Thus, we have a look at three potential landing spots, as per the buzz around the NBA.
Los Angeles Lakers
They have been linked as having interest in Capela this offseason. Kevin O'Connor of The Ringer presumed that the Lakers are looking for a center to allow Anthony Davis to play power forward more frequently, plus are looking to boost their defense. Capela fills both needs.
Memphis Grizzlies
The Grizz have apparently "made calls" on Capela, according to Matt Moore of The Action Network. With raw rookie Zach Edey looking like he'll get a real shot at proving himself in the middle, Memphis could certainly use a steady, veteran defensive presence like Capela to be there to help with Edey's transition.
New York Knicks
This one makes a lot of sense, as the Knicks are trying to fill the void left behind when center Isaiah Hartenstein bolted for the Oklahoma City Thunder in free agency a few weeks back.

“Clint Capela, Atlanta, was one big that the Knicks checked in on. I don't know how far talks went. I don't know if they're active at this very moment. But they did check in on Capela.”

Per Ian Begley of SNY, the Knicks have checked in on the Hawks big man. “Clint Capela, Atlanta, was one big that the Knicks checked in on. I don't know how far talks went. I don't know if they're active at this very moment. But they did check in on Capela.”
The 6'10" center with the 7'4" wingspan has career marks 12.3 points per game, 10.7 rebounds and 1.5 blocks. He's always been a solid rim-protector on one end, and rim-runner on the other.
