Frontrunner Named for Free Agent Gary Trent Jr.; 2 Other Teams with Strong Interest

Gary Trent Jr.'s time with the Toronto Raptors is done, and the free agent is getting closer to landing in a new destination. According to reports, he has been in talks for days now with the Philadelphia 76ers, and an agreement could be imminent.

Interestingly, the Sixers could be bringing yet another ex-Raptor player in to join head coach Nick Nurse, who led the team to its 2019 NBA title. Kyle Lowry, the point guard on that championship team and longtime Raptor, is already on board.

And while some have brought up the fact that Trent Jr didn't always have the best relationship with Nurse, what he did have is a strong bond with Sixers assistant (and former Raptors assistant) Rico Hines. Lots of familiarity here for Trent.

For what it's worth, a little more evidence of Trent's affinity to Philly can be found on Instagram, where he recently followed Sixers players Tyrese Maxey and Andre Drummond.

The two other teams that are said to have strong interest in Trent are the New York Knicks (featuring Trent's former teammate in Toronto, OG Anunoby), and the Denver Nuggets.

Last season, Trent averaged 13.7 points on 42.6% shooting, and 39.3% from three-point range.
