Mavericks Bring Back Key Member of 2022 Conference Final Team
The Dallas Mavericks have already made one big move on the free agent market this month, bringing in four-time champion Klay Thompson. Now they've arranged for a reunion with a key member of the 2022 Western Conference Finals team, in Spencer Dinwiddie.
Free agent guard Spencer Dinwiddie has agreed on a one-year deal with the Dallas Mavericks, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium. Dinwiddie reunites with Mavs as an ideal backcourt fit. Dinwiddie has signed a one-year deal, and will play a key role in the Dallas backcourt as third guard behind Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving. His last time in Texas, over part of two seasons, he averaged 17.1 points, 4.9 assists, and shot over 40% from three-point land. He averaged over 32 minutes per night.
The 31-year-old, however, is coming off his worst season in eight years, averaging 10.5 points and 4.7 assists split between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Brooklyn Nets. He played 28.3 minutes per game. He should be rejuvenated in Big D.
League sources tell insider Marc Stein that the Mavericks had also considered free agents Dennis Smith Jr. and Talen Horton-Tucker, but that is now off the table with the Dinwiddie signing and filling the team's final roster spot.
Perhaps we got some foreshadowing when Dinwiddie was in Asia this week, as he named Luka as the best player in the NBA, saying he got robbed for MVP honors.
