SIGNING: Top Remaining Free Agent Tyus Jones Has A New NBA Home

Tyus Jones was the best available remaining free agent, and many were surprised he hadn't signed yet. But with most teams out of any significant cap room, he has now agreed on a one-year, $3.3 million "prove it" type deal with the Phoenix Suns.

With the bargain signing, the Suns have gotten themselves a steal in landing a new starting point guard, solidifying the 'one' spot, which was a problem for them all last season.

"The chance to play for the Phoenix Suns made the most sense on a lot of levels to me and my family -- beginning with the way [governor] Mat Ishbia and the front office recruited me to how coach [Mike Budenholzer] showed me how I can significantly impact a team that has a real opportunity to challenge for an NBA title as their starting point guard," Jones told ESPN on Saturday.

Jones averaged 12.0 points and 7.3 assists for the Washington Wizards in 2023-24, and now gets a chance to make a real impact with a contender. He will be able to head back out onto the free-agent market next summer at the age of 29 having spent the season feeding the likes of Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and Bradley Beal.

Both Booker and Beal were miscast as point guards at times last season, which limited the team's effectiveness as a whole.

It's a huge get for the Suns, who now have a more complete (and sensible) roster heading into the new season.
