16 Players Who Can't Be Traded Until Mid-Season

We hear a lot of trade rumors around the NBA, but depending on when a player signs with a team, there is a limitation on his eligibility to be traded.

There are 16 players in the league this year who cannot be traded until mid-January, about three months in—or about the halfway point of the season. Per Hoops Rumors, these players have several criteria in common that puts them into this category:

  • They re-signed with their previous team this offseason
  • They got a raise of at least 20%
  • Their salary is greater than the league minimum
  • Their team used Bird or Early Bird rights to sign them, being over the cap

With that backdrop, we have a look at these players who cannot be included in trade talks for the first half of the season:

  • Precious Achiuwa, New York Knicks
  • OG Anunoby, New York Knicks
  • Goga Bitadze, Orlando Magic
  • Miles Bridges, Charlotte Hornets
  • Max Christie, LA Lakers
  • Nic Claxton, Brooklyn Nets
  • Haywood Highsmith, Miami Heat
  • Isaiah Joe, OKC Thunder
  • KJ Martin, Philadelphia 76ers
  • Tyrese Maxey, Philadelphia 76ers
  • Malik Monk, Sacramento Kings
  • Josh Okogie, Phoenix Suns
  • Immanuel Quickley, Toronto Raptors
  • Obi Toppin, Indiana Pacers
  • Aaron Wiggins, OKC Thunder
  • Patrick Williams, Chicago Bulls
None of these players, with the exception of Nic Claxton, have really found themselves named in any trade rumors, so it's not as if there would anything brewing at the moment with these 16 anyway.

But let's face it, three months is a long time for things to unfold in an NBA season, and things can start going sideways for a number of teams, and in that case, all bets are off (though we think it's still pretty safe to assume that Maxey and Anonuby, at least, won't be going anywhere, even after January 15th.
