Clint Capela Heads to Golden State Warriors in Proposed Trade
Atlanta Hawks center Clint Capela is once again on the trade market, as the 30-year-old big man enters the final year of his contract, worth $22.3 million. The Hawks, after dealing away Dejounte Murray to hit the "re-set" button, will clearly not be re-signing Capela after the season.
The Golden State Warriors are looking for some size and a true defensive force down low, someone with rim-protection ability.
With all that in mind, Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report has put together a trade proposal that he feels should work for both the Hawks and Warriors.
Golden State Warriors receive:
- Clint Capela
Atlanta Hawks receive:
- Moses Moody
- Gary Payton II
- Kevon Looney
- 2026 second-round pick (via ATL)
Size is a bit of an issue for the Warriors, especially down low, at both ends of the court. Capela could address those needs for the Dubs, able to protect the basket at one end, and rim-run and finish at the other. The 30-year-old has averaged a double-double for the last seven straight seasons, and for his 10-year career, has marks of 12.3 points and 10.7 rebounds along with 1.5 blocked shots.
The Hawks would get a huge leg up on their rebuild, acquiring a former first-rounder in Moody who could be a keeper, a defensive stalwart on the perimeter in Payton II (if he can stay healthy), a somewhat serviceable big man in Looney and a draft pick that, for the second round, should be a good one.
Certainly, neither of these teams seem like they're done assembling their squads yet for the coming season, so we could hear some action from them in the coming weeks.
