Jerami Grant Would Land With LA Lakers in Blockbuster Trade Proposal
The Portland Trail Blazers are rebuilding. They have no need to be paying Jerami Grant $132 million over the next four years—he was signed to be Damian Lillard's sidekick just before Lillard was traded to Milwaukee and the tear-down began.
The Los Angeles Lakers have been tied to Grant for a while now as a potential 3rd scoring star to tandem with LeBron James & Anthony Davis.
Given all of that, Zack Buckley of Bleacher Report has proposed a blockbuster trade that would cure the above issues for both teams.
Los Angeles Lakers receive:
- Jerami Grant
- Duop Reath
Portland Trail Blazers receive:
- D'Angelo Russell
- Jarred Vanderbilt
- Jalen Hood-Schifino
- 2029 first-round pick
- 2025 second-round pick (via LAC)
The Lakers finally get a big scorer to take some of the pressure off of LeBron and AD. Grant has averaged 20.7 points in his last two seasons in Portland, while shooting over 40% from three both years.
LA would also get a backup 'five' in Reath, the undrafted 6'11" center from South Sudan who jumped right into the NBA last season with the Blazers and posted 9 points per game while shooting 36% from long range.
For the Trail Blazers, this trade would be a big haul, and give them some big steps forward in their rebuild. Hood-Schifino was a first-rounder last year, so is another potential piece along with the other picks they would obtain here. Russell would only be an expiring contract for them to use at the trade deadline (or sooner) and Vanderbilt is a nice defensive addition for a team that doesn't have a lot of ball-stopping.
