NBA Trade Rumors: 3 Top Landing Spots for Hawks' De'Andre Hunter
With three years still remaining on his four-year, $90 million contract, Atlanta Hawks forward De'Andre Hunter remains on the trade block, a place he always seems to be residing.
The Hawks have been busy on the trade market this summer, and have already dealt star guard Dejounte Murray, while other names like Clint Capela, Trae Young and Hunter have been bandied about as well.
Hunter is a solid 3-and-D option who posted the best outside shooting season of his career, knocking down 38.5% of his threes. He averaged 15.6 points, also a career-best by a slim margin, along with 3.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists.
Let's have a look at three top landing spots for Hunter in a trade.
Detroit Pistons
This is a team that needs some solid NBA players—at pretty much every position. After a disastrous season in which they posted the worst record in basketball at 14-68, the franchise is looking to put a competitive team on the floor this year. This process began by adding a viable power forward to the mix in Tobias Harris through free agency. Former No. 5 overall pick Ausar Thompson is going into his second season at small forward, and as he might not yet be ready for prime time, having Hunter around could be a huge boost at the position.
Cleveland Cavaliers
With Isaac Okoro seemingly on his way out, the Cavs could use Hunter as an upgrade in his spot, particularly on the offensive end. He's a consistent 15 ppg scorer, something Okoro could only dream of being at this point in his career, and they wouldn't take much of a hit on the defensive end. Cleveland is just looking for a nice piece here and a nice piece there to take it to the next level.
Los Angeles Lakers
There were no big splashes this offseason for the Lakers... Not much movement at all, in fact, much to the chagrin of Lakers fans. Hunter would be a nice addition, though, as LeBron James and Anthony Davis can use all the shooting around them that they can get. And, imagine the open looks he'd be getting with the presence of the dynamic duo down low. As noted by Tyler Conway of Bleacher Report, that could be a huge help to Hunter's game and significantly boost his three-point percentage.
