New Update on Brook Lopez Trade Rumors

The rumors have been flying all offseason about where center Brook Lopez may be traded, as he heads into the final year of his contract with the Milwaukee Bucks. The team reportedly considered the possibility of moving on from the 7'1" defensive stalwart earlier in the summer.

The Bucks have now made their intentions known, without doubt: They will not be trading the two-time All-Defensive Team big man.

Brian Windhorst of ESPN is reporting that the Bucks have told the 36-year-old that they have no plans to trade him.

As of right now, I’ve been told firmly that they are not trading him. And so [has] Brook. Brook heard some of the rumors and said, ‘Hey, what’s going on?’ [The Bucks told him], ‘No, we’re not trading you.'

Lopez finished runner-up for the NBA's Defensive Player of the Year in 2022-23, and this season, while his numbers took a bit of a dip, he was still a key player on the defensive side of the ball for Milwaukee.

He finished the season with 2.4 blocked shots per game and 5.2 rebounds, while adding 12.5 points at the offensive end with a 36.6% mark from long range.

Lopez was critical for the Bucks in their championship season in 2021, and the team has already moved on from their other defensive anchor from that team, Jrue Holiday (who has gone on to win another title, with the Boston Celtics).

For now, the Bucks are going to run it back with the Giannis Antetokounmpo-Damian Lillard-Lopez trio, and see if they can muster up a championship run.
