Report: Cavaliers Said "NO" To Two Teams' Offers for Darius Garland

The Cleveland Cavaliers got Donovan Mitchell to sign an extension this summer, and with that, they are adamant that they want to keep the 'core four' of Mitchell, Darius Garland, Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen together.

So much so, in fact, that they turned down trade offers from two teams who were looking to pry Garland away to serve as their new point guard for the future.

Ashish Mathur reports on Hoops Wire that the Cavs said NO to the advances of the San Antonio Spurs and the New Orleans Pelicans. The report offered no word on what exactly the teams were offering in return.

But we do know that they each went in other directions, with the Spurs going out and signing future Hall of Famer Chris Paul to help take burgeoning superstar Victor Wembanyama into the next phase of his development.

And the Pelicans made a big splash by trading for Dejounte Murray to be their new lead guard, sending Dyson Daniels, E.J. Liddell, Larry Nance Jr., Cody Zeller (via sign-and-trade), and two future first-round picks to the Atlanta Hawks.

Sources told Mathur that upon signing his 3-year extension in Cleveland, Mitchell told the team not to trade any of his Big Four compatriots, and the team is quite content to run it back as is.

The Cavs, in their first year in this incarnation, lost in the first round of the playoffs, but then in 2023-24, they won a round before losing in the Conference Semi-Finals to the eventual champion Boston Celtics.
