SIGNED: Lonnie Walker IV Finds New NBA Home With Title Contender

It's amazing what kind of steals opportunistic front offices can come up with at this time of the offseason, with many teams still on summer vacation. Lonnie Walker IV, who has proven himself as a viable rotation piece in the league, has joined the defending champion Boston Celtics.

It's not surprising that the Celtics came calling on Walker IV, as they were reportedly one of the contenders that called the Brooklyn Nets about him at February’s trade deadline.

It's an Exhibit 10 contract, however, and he'll have to earn a full NBA deal with a good training camp. The E10 does allow the Celtics to give Walker a bonus if he is waived after camp and then plays a minimum amount of games for the team's G League affiliate in Maine. But first, it's more likely that he'll earn an NBA deal with his play at camp.

Walker fared well with the Brooklyn Nets last season, averaging 9.7 points while shooting 38% on three-pointers in 17.4 minutes per game. He averaged well over 20 minutes a night the previous three seasons, with the LA Lakers and San Antonio Spurs, even garnering over 70 starts.

In his career, the 6'4" shooting guard averages 9.8 points while shooting 35.6% from long distance. He has proven to have the ability to close important games, and doesn't shrink away from the moment, as he showed in the playoffs for the Lakers in 2023.

Perhaps he can do the same for the Celtics this season.
