Jimmy Butler Trade Proposal Lands Him In San Antonio with Victor Wembanyama

With Rookie of the Year phenom Victor Wembanyama proving he is up to the task of taking the NBA by storm, it begs the question of whether the San Antonio Spurs are ready to accelerate their rebuild?

Would they be ready to trade for a proven star who has taken his team to the NBA Finals twice in the last four years? Jimmy Butler is known to be ready to head into free agency after the season, and the Miami Heat have to be taking trade offers seriously, if not now, then before the end of the year when Butler can bolt.

To that end, Andy Bailey of Bleacher Report has proposed the following blockbuster trade that would team up Butler with Wemby, and give the Heat some pieces to restock the cupboard.

San Antonio Spurs Receive:

  • Jimmy Butler
Miami Heat Receive:
  • Keldon Johnson
  • Jeremy Sochan
  • Zach Collins
  • 2025 first-round pick
  • 2031 first-round pick

This would be a massive haul for the Heat, nabbing three key rotation players from the Spurs. Johnson is a star in his own right, but his shot attempts and production took a big dip last season with the arrival of Wemby, who made Johnson's usage more expendable.
The year before last, he averaged 22 points with five rebounds and was a burgeoning star.

Sochan and Collins offer other skills that would help fill out the Heat's rotation. And then there would be a couple of first-rounders for Miami to build for the future.

For the Spurs, pairing the young superstar Wembanyama with not one, but two future Hall of Famers (they also acquired Chris Paul this summer) could be a fascinating development, and make San Antonio an immediate contender.
