NBA Trade Rumors: Cam Johnson Linked to Lakers in Proposed Trade

The Brooklyn Nets are well on the road to a total tear-down after trading Mikal Bridges earlier this summer, and one of their top players who should be next out the door is power forward Cam Johnson.

The latest report, from Brett Siegel of Clutch Points, is that the Los Angeles Lakers could look to add Johnson, and he proposes a deal that could look like this:

The Lakers actually have a path to potentially putting together an enticing offer since returning (D'Angelo) Russell to Brooklyn makes sense. With the Nets taking a step back and rebuilding, Russell would instantly be a veteran leader at the point guard position for this team. Along with Russell, the Lakers could send both (Christian) Wood and (Cam) Reddish to the Nets as well, which keeps them below the second apron while adding Johnson.

That's all well and good, however, aren't the Nets looking for primo draft assets when trading off their stars? Siegel notes that Brooklyn has indeed been asking for multiple draft picks in various trade proposals for Johnson. The Lakers, however, can't even trade a first-round pick until at least their 2029 selection.

Unless they get a third team involved, it doesn't sound like a Cam Johnson-to-LAL deal is very likely.

But the Lakers, who've had a very quiet offseason, are trying to do something to add some juice to the excitement of a new season. So if it's not Johnson, they will keep searching.
