Proposed 3-team Trade Would Land Knicks’ Julius Randle in Charlotte

We recently heard word from a very plugged-in NBA insider that the New York Knicks' playmaking power forward Julius Randle is seen around the league as "extraordinarily tradable" due to his contract.

With the Knicks bringing in new star scoring forward Mikal Bridges, and the fact that they were a juggernaut late last season without the injured Randle in the lineup, it's fair to wonder if the team is looking to open his salary slot and spot on the roster going forward.

With that, we get a trade solution suggested by insider Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report, who notes that the following proposed three-team deal would help the Knicks "get to a better financial position with tax/aprons while adding solid role players."

New York Knicks Receive:

    • Grant Williams (from Hornets)
    • Nick Richards (from Hornets)
    • $15.9 million trade exception (Randle)
    • $2.1 million trade exception (Jericho Sims)

    Charlotte Hornets Receive:

    • Julius Randle (from Knicks)
    • Jericho Sims (from Knicks)
    • Corey Kispert (from Wizards)
    • Marvin Bagley III (from Wizards)

    Washington Wizards Recieve:

    • Josh Green (from Hornets)
    • Cody Martin (from Hornets)
    • 2025 Wizards protected first-rounder (from Knicks)
    • 2025 Detroit Pistons protected first-rounder (from Knicks)

The deal allows the Knicks to get out from under Randle's $29 million annual deal that has two years to run (if he were to pick up a player option), while landing them a couple of solid big men (Richards is a 7-footer) to provide some banging down low and some scoring. It also allows them to hand the scoring load officially over to the combination of new captain Jalen Brunson and new recruit Mikal Bridges.

Adding Randle to Miles Bridges gives the Hornets a bruising and impressive twosome up front, and they have plenty of cap space to re-sign Randle to an extension that he'll be eligible for.

The Wizards pick up a couple of first-rounders, and a young former first-rounder in Josh Green, who still has a chance to develop into something as a shooting guard alongside LaMelo Ball.
