Proposed "No-Brainer" Trade For Cavaliers & Nets

The Cleveland Cavaliers have had restricted free agent Isaac Okoro on the trade block all summer, while the team has looked to beef up its size and defense on the perimeter. There's one potential trade that's just sitting out there, and Cavs analyst Caleb Crowley calls it a "no-brainer" that must happen before training camp.

The proposed deal, which has been discussed between the teams, would see the Cavaliers land 3-and-D wing Dorian Finney-Smith from the Brooklyn Nets in a sign-and-trade for Okoro.

As Crowley notes, "Placing Finney-Smith into the Cavaliers' rotation instantly improves Cleveland's overall depth, especially with the undersized wing rotation that they currently employ."

DFS, now 31, has lost a bit of scoring and outside shooting ability while in Brooklyn the past couple of years, but of course, being surrounded by the weak team the Nets have become over that time would hurt anybody's production. With the likes of Donovan Mitchell, Darius Garland and Evan Mobley surrounding him, Finney-Smith would be finding himself with a lot more wide-open looks.

Last year, he averaged 8.5 points, 4.7 rebounds and just under 35% on threes.

While Okoro shot a higher percentage from distance last season, his career mark is a bit lower than Finney-Smith's, and he gives up a couple of inches in size and reach on defense.

On top of that, Okoro and the team are not on the same page on a new contract for the RFA.

Finney-Smith has two years left on his deal at $15 million per season.
