Knicks Trade Rumors: 3 Potential Trade Destinations for Mitchell Robinson
With the arrival of Karl-Anthony Towns to man the middle at Madison Square Garden, the New York Knicks have seen an increase in calls about the availability of incumbent center Mitchell Robinson.
The six-year veteran has been a key part of the Knicks rotation—when he's been healthy. Robinson, however, has missed 146 games in his six seasons, or 31% of the Knicks games. He played in only 31 contests in 2023-24.
Moving on from him, and the $27 million he's owed over the next two years, could certainly be something New York seriously considers. He's already out until at least Dec. 1st this season.
"Sources have told me that Leon Rose and his front office are taking and receiving calls on center Mitchell Robinson," reported insider Kris Pursiainen recently.
"They have not shut down the phone lines, so they're still in active conversations with other teams."
In the meantime, here are 3 teams that make sense as potential trade destinations for Robinson:
Los Angeles Lakers
This is a team that has been definitely looking for a center, as they try to get Anthony Davis more time alongside another viable big, allowing AD to play more 'four'.
New Orleans Pelicans
They lost big man Jonas Valanciunas to free agency and the Washington Wizards this offseason, and are in need of a starting center. Currently, their depth chart in the pivot consists of Yves Missi and Daniel Theis. The former is a 21-year-old late first-rounder who hasn't played a game in the NBA yet, while the latter is a backup who hasn't been a starter in four years.
Memphis Grizzlies
The Grizz are going with raw rookie Zach Edey as their starting center, and while everyone is excited about the 7'4" beast, wouldn't they love to have a proven pivot like Robinson to share the job and help ease Edey into the league? Currently, the only other centers on the Memphis depth chart are Santi Aldama (not a true center) and Jay Huff (not a great option).
