Proposed Trade Sends Marcus Smart to the Knicks
The New York Knicks have made some huge additions this offseason, including Mikal Bridges and Karl-Anthony Towns. Added to Jalen Brunson, those two will make the team very difficult to stop on offense.
But in addition to their re-signing of OG Anunoby, the Knicks are looking for one more lockdown defender to help round out their roster as they attempt to push the Boston Celtics for Eastern Conference supremacy.
They're hoping to Get Smart. As in Marcus Smart of the Memphis Grizzlies.
So how can they pull that off?
Bruno Rukavina of Athlon Sports has proposed the following trade:
NY Knicks Receive:
- Marcus Smart
Memphis Grizzlies Receive:
- Mitchell Robinson
- Miles 'Duece' McBride
As for the Knicks, does anyone dispute that Smart is exactly the type of player that Tom Thibodeau would fall in love with? His hound dog defense is just what the Knicks could use to combine with Anunoby to go up against the likes of Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum of the Celtics.
As for Memphis, the Grizzlies are going with rookie Zach Edey at center. And while the 7'4" giant is an enticing prospect, there's no guarantees on how the 22-year-old from Toronto will adjust to the NBA. The Grizz could certainly use a formidable center to go along with him, as there are no others on the roster.
The one hiccup here, however, is the fact that the oft-injured Robinson is.. once again.. injured, and expected to be out until January. If the Grizzlies are willing to wait...
We'll keep an eye on this one as the season goes along.
