Report: Knicks Hoping To Sign Free Agent Sharpshooter
The New York Knicks and Boston Celtics are tipping off the 2024-25 NBA season Tuesday night, and the Knicks recently learned that they'll be without Landry Shamet for a while, out with a dislocated shoulder. The Knicks, according to insider Shams Charania, have their eyes on replacing him with free agent sharpshooter Matt Ryan.

After waiving Shamet, the Knicks actually are in need of signing two players to fill out their roster within the first two weeks of the season.
"I'm told one player they have serious interest in signing (is) Matt Ryan... That shooter position is something that they badly need, so Matt Ryan is somebody they could sign in the near future."
Knicks insider Ian Begley concurs with Charania's analysis, writing that "Prior to the Landry Shamet injury, Matt Ryan had been on the Knicks radar as a potential two-way player if/when they cleared a two-way spot, per sources".
In three NBA seasons, Ryan has an impressive 41% mark from three-point range, and last year in 14 minutes a game with the New Orleans Pelicans, shot the lights out at 45% from long distance. The 27-year-old shooter has also spent time with the Los Angeles Lakers and Minnesota Timberwolves.
The Knicks still hope to bring Shamet back after his shoulder is healed up.
