Tough Break for Pelicans' Trey Murphy III

A brutal break for the New Orleans Pelicans and forward Trey Murphy III. An MRI on Thursday has confirmed the diagnosis of a right hamstring strain and he'll be out for at least three weeks, likely taking him out of the lineup to start the season.

The injury occurred during Wednesday evening’s practice. He will be re-examined in approximately three weeks, then will need some ramp-up time even if the injury has cleared at that point.

The 24-year-old is going into his 4th season in New Orleans, and the rising star has been a huge piece of what the Pelicans do. He's played 30 minutes a night over the past two seasons, averaging close to 15 points per game, while spreading the floor at a 39% clip from long range over that time span.

It's another tough injury break for Murphy, who missed 19 games early last season with a meniscus problem in his left knee.

He is eligible for a contract extension this season.
