The injury occurred during Wednesday evening’s practice. He will be re-examined in approximately three weeks, then will need some ramp-up time even if the injury has cleared at that point.
The 24-year-old is going into his 4th season in New Orleans, and the rising star has been a huge piece of what the Pelicans do. He's played 30 minutes a night over the past two seasons, averaging close to 15 points per game, while spreading the floor at a 39% clip from long range over that time span.
It's another tough injury break for Murphy, who missed 19 games early last season with a meniscus problem in his left knee.
He is eligible for a contract extension this season.
