Warriors De'Anthony Melton Is Finished for the Season

What was being called an ACL sprain has obviously proven to be much more serious, as the Golden State Warriors have announced Wednesday night that guard De'Anthony Melton will undergo season-ending ACL surgery.

The Warriors say he will miss the rest of the 2024-25 season.

Melton missed the last two Golden State games, but before that, in six contests, averaged 10.3 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.8 assists in 20.2 minutes per game while shooting 37.1% from three-point land. He was a key part of their rotation after being signed to the Warriors’ full $12.8M mid-level exception. He'll head back out into free agency again next summer.

Melton has been a quality rotation piece in helping the Dubs get off to their tremendous 10-3 start to the season, sitting on top of the Western Conference.

"It's obviously terrible news. I feel so bad for De'Anthony, Warriors coach Steve Kerr said. "He's such a perfect fit for us, and we were so excited to have him, and he was clearly going to be our starter next to Steph (Curry).

"The good news is he's a young guy, and the surgery is pretty routine these days, so he should be able to come back and resume his career really well, but I feel awful for him and bad for us, too."

The 26-year-old is in his 7th NBA season, having scored in double digits each of the last three years.

In Melton's absence, Brandin Podziemski, Lindy Waters III and Gary Payton II will all be counted on for more minutes and more production.
