Breaking: Brutal Injury News for Sixers and Jared McCain

The leading candidate for Rookie of the Year in the NBA this season, and basically the only bright spot in the Philadelphia 76ers brutal season, Jared McCain has been pronounced out indefinitely with a torn meniscus. Absolutely awful news for the rookie and the struggling team.

McCain informed Sixers staffers of left knee soreness following last night’s game vs. Indiana, and the Sixers revealed that an MRI today revealed a lateral meniscus tear in his left knee. The injury will require surgery and he is out indefinitely.

McCain was far and away the betting favorite to win ROY with averages of 15.3 points, 2.6 assists and a 38.3% mark from three-point range. He was playing nearly 26 minutes a game.

The 20-year-old out of Duke University was the 16th pick overall in the first round of this past year's NBA Draft.

The news comes just hours after they learned that Joel Embiid, just back in the lineup one game earlier, suffered a sinus fracture in that same game Friday night against Indiana, and he, too, is now sidelined once again.

Embiid has played just six games this season, the biggest reason that the Sixers are off to a 7-16 start. They find themselves two games back of a Play-In spot. Losing McCain as well is a big blow to the team as they've been trying to turn things around. Philly is 5-4 in its last 10 games, but had gone 1-9 in their previous ten.
