BREAKING: Sacramento Kings Make Huge Shake-Up Move

The Sacramento Kings made a big offseason splash signing DeMar DeRozan, but the team has gotten off to a dreary start to the 2024-25 season despite high hopes. Now, in the midst of a five-game losing streak, they've decided to fire head coach Mike Brown.

He had just been signed to a new contract extension during the summer that will pay him through the 2026-2027 season. Incredibly, just minutes before being fired, he held a post-practice session with the media in which he stated that he felt, essentially, that the team had his back despite all the losing lately.

“When you’re going through adversity, you know who’s truly there for you.”

Wow.

Brown took over the team in 2022 and led them to a shocking 3rd-seed finish in the Western Conference, and an 18-game improvement in the standings, as well as their first playoff appearance in 17 seasons, which snapped a U.S. sports record drought. That was enough to win him NBA Coach of the Year honors for the 2022-23 season.

But with a 13-18 record and a 12th place standing this year, the Kings felt it was time for a change. They've lost 12 of their last 17 games, and have lost an NBA-high 13 clutch-time games this season, something they won with regularity behind the heroics of De'Aaron Fox two years ago.

Overall, Brown posted a 107-88 mark with the Kings for a .549 winning pct. He also coached the Cleveland Cavaliers for six seasons and the LA Lakers for part of two years.

Kings assistant coach and longtime Kings and Toronto Raptors guard Doug Christie has been named the interim coach.
