NBA Trade Rumors: LaMelo Ball Would Join Wemby In San Antonio in Proposed Trade

The San Antonio Spurs are playing reasonably well, sitting at .500, though on the periphery of the play-in picture. Imagine adding another exciting young superstar like point guard LaMelo Ball to join with Victor Wembanyama. The highlights would be off the charts.

Greg Swartz of Bleacher Report has proposed a blockbuster trade idea that could get Ball to go ballin' with Wemby.

    San Antonio Spurs Receive:

  • PG LaMelo Ball

    Charlotte Hornets Receive:

  • F Keldon Johnson
  • PG Tre Jones
  • SG Malaki Branham
  • 2025 first-round pick (lottery-protected)
  • 2027 first-round pick (unprotected)
  • 2027 first-round pick (unprotected via Atlanta Hawks)

The Spurs already have Chris Paul hooking up with Wembanyama, but Ball would be a piece to take into the future with their young core, and create a superstar duo that would be tough to stop—and dominate the league's highlight reels. Ball is still just 23, and is averaging a spectacular 31.1 points this season while dishing out 6.9 assists along with 5.4 rebounds, and 1.1 steals a game.

The Hornets get a nice start at a rebuild, as their current incarnation is going nowhere. Johnson was a 22 point per game scorer as a starter just two years ago, before Wemby came on the scene and Johnson's FG attempts and minutes took a big dive. In a situation like Charlotte, he could turn into a star once again.

Branham and Jones are also potential pieces. And then there's the trio of first-round picks.

Whether the Hornets would trade the only reason any fans have to attend their games, however, is another question.
