NBA Trade Rumors: 3-Team Blockbuster Lands Jimmy Butler with Suns in Proposed Deal
The Jimmy Butler rumors just won't die, as the Miami Heat are open to trading him before he opts out to become an unrestricted free agent next summer.
There are a number of teams that Butler would agree to be sent to, all of them title contenders this season.
ESPN's Bobby Marks has taken a stab at getting Butler to the Phoenix Suns, and has proposed this 3-team blockbuster that would get it done:
Phoenix Suns get:
- Jimmy Butler
- Bradley Beal
- 2031 Suns first-round pick
- 2031 Suns second-round pick
- 2026 and 2031 Nuggets second-round picks (via Suns)
- Alec Burks
To make this work, admits Marks, Beal would have to waive his no-trade clause, and take his onerous contract to South Beach. His is the only contract on the Suns' roster that enables this trade to pass the salary-matching restrictions, since Grayson Allen, Jusuf Nurkic and Josh Okogie can not be aggregated, says Marks, since the Suns are over the second tax apron. Butler earns $48.8M this season, while Beal earns $50M and has another two more years to run on that contract.
It's that last fact, the $110M still owed to Beal after this season, that would likely put the kibosh on this deal from Miami, but who knows, they might look at the draft capital as nice assets.
The Sixers and Burks would have to be involved, per Marks, so that Miami "doesn't trigger a hard cap at the first apron." Depth in the backcourt could help Philly, who have the aging Kyle Lowry and Eric Gordon at the guard spots and can't be counted on on a regular basis.
