Lakers Trade Rumors: This Blockbuster Proposal Would Send LeBron James to Warriors
We've heard the talk ever since they became besties while winning a Gold Medal at the Olympics last summer. LeBron James and Steph Curry would love to play together again. We also know that the Golden State Warriors have been searching high and low for a superstar to pair up with Curry to make one more big run at a championship while his window is still open.
We also know that the Warriors made a call to the LA Lakers at last year's trade deadline to see if LeBron was available.
Taking all of that into account, Greg Swartz of Bleacher Report has proposed this last-ditch attempt by Golden State at a blockbuster deal that would land them James:
Golden State Warriors Receive:
- F LeBron James
Los Angeles Lakers Receive:
- F Jonathan Kuminga
- SF Andrew Wiggins
- SG Buddy Hield
- G Gary Payton II
- 2025 first-round pick (top-five unprotected)
The pairing of Steph and LeBron in The Bay area would make for must-see TV on League Pass, and would give the Warriors a shot with Curry, James and Draymond Green.
They would, however, be giving up a lot of shooting in this hypothetical deal, and a big chunk of their future as well. Swartz sees the Lakers receiving the young stud that the Dubs just don't want to give up, Jonathan Kuminga, plus one of the NBA's best three-point shooters over the last nine years in Buddy Hield.
Andrew Wiggins has bounced back with a nice season this year as well, shooting nearly 40% from three, though the Lakers would have to pay him for two more seasons after this one at an AAV of $29 million.
Those three, plus defensive specialist Gary Payton II (whenever he's healthy enough to be on the court), might even keep the Lakers in the hunt for this season.
LA would also replenish its first-round pick stash, with a selection this year.
