NBA Trade Rumros: Jimmy Butler Lands In Sacramento in Blockbuster Trade Proposal
The Sacramento Kings need to go all-in if they're to convince star point guard De'Aaron Fox to stick around. There have been rumblings that he could ask for a trade as we head to the deadline one month from now.
It just so happens that a superstar has become available on the trade market, in case you haven't heard. Could the Kings swing a deal with the Miami Heat for Jimmy Butler? It would certainly make the team a legitimate contender in the Western Conference, which is where they hoped to be coming into this season.
With that, let's have a look at a proposed trade posited by insider John Hollinger of The Athletic—in fact, he calls it the "one" Butler trade that makes any sense to him:
To Sacramento Kings:
- Jimmy Butler
- Kevin Love
To Miami Heat:
- DeMar DeRozan
- Trey Lyles
- Kevin Huerter
For the Heat, says Hollinger, they'd still be able to compete, getting themselves a six-time All-Star and 20 ppg scorer, while getting some cap relief. DeRozan makes an average of $24 million in each of the next two seasons after this one, a far cry from the $50+ million that Butler is looking to haul in on an extension.
The Kings get to show Fox that they're all-in, going for the whole ball of wax. A triumvirate of Butler, Fox & Sabonis would be a killer Big 3, covering all areas of the floor.
Hollinger admits, however, that this would be a deal that Sacramento would only do after they've exhausted all other options. As he says, "Butler might be one option, but I don’t think he’s the first option for anyone. Or even second or third."
