Top Trade Target Cam Johnson Would Land in OKC in Proposed Deal
He's the top trade target for teams all around the NBA as we quickly approach the trade deadline on Feb. 6th. Brooklyn Nets' sharpshooting forward Cam Johnson is in high demand, and we do know that the Oklahoma City Thunder are among the serious suitors.
Cal Durrett of Hoops Habit has proposed two prime assets that the Thunder can send to the Nets that could get the deal done.
Thunder Get:
- Cam Johnson, F
Nets Get:
- Nikola Topic, PG, #12 pick in 2024 NBA Draft
- First-Round Pick
As Durrett notes, Topic was widely regarded as the best pure point guard in the draft, which, given the expiring contracts of D'Angelo Russell and Ben Simmons, would be an ideal spot for Brooklyn for fill. The Nets are said to be interested in Topic, per Evan Sidery, and he could be the key to getting a deal done here.
The Nets are widely believed to covet Nikola Topić in trade talks with the Thunder on Cam Johnson.

Topić aims to be fully healthy next season after tearing his ACL before the 2024 NBA Draft.

Topic is currently out with a torn ACL this season, but should be ready to go for next season, which is no skin off the Nets' back, as they are not competing for anything except ping pong balls this season.
Johnson would make the Thunder's frontcourt formidable once all bodies are healthy, adding his shooting and defensive skills to the current rotation of Jalen Williams, Jaylin Williams and Aaron Wiggins.
And while Isaiah Hartenstein is returning to the center spot this weekend from injury, it'll still be another month or so before Chet Holmgren is back. But just imagine what the lineup would look like then with the addition of Johnson and his 42% shooting from beyond the arc.
The Thunder are already running away with the Western Conference, at 36-8, and a trade like this, without subtracting from their roster, could make them unbeatable.
As for the Nets, they get a couple of nice assets in their rebuild.
