Updated Trade Board Lists Top 10 Trade Candidates
As we sit just two weeks out from the NBA trade deadline, there are plenty of big names getting buzz out on the rumor mill. Some will move, some won't. But before things start to blow up, let's look at a rundown of the top 10 trade candidates, as ranked by The Athletic.
- Jimmy Butler, Miami Heat
- Zach LaVine, Chicago, Chicago Bulls
- Cameron Johnson, Brooklyn Nets
- Brandon Ingram, New Orleans Pelicans
- CJ McCollum, New Orleans Pelicans
- Khris Middleton, Milwaukee Bucks
- Bradley Beal, Phoenix Suns
- Nic Claxton, Brooklyn Nets
- Bogdan Bogdanovic, Atlanta Hawks
- Bruce Brown, Toronto Raptors
Of course, Butler tops the list, as his trade demand has now been followed by two suspensions from the Miami Heat. He even wore Phoenix Suns-colored sneakers to his last game with the Heat before his latest suspension.
LaVine has been a trade candidate for well over a year, while Ingram has been one since the offseason when he demanded a max extension that the Pels have no interest in granting.
Johnson has been the hottest name on the market this season, with scores of teams wanting to land the power forward who is having the best season of his career, at 19.4 points per game and 41.9% shooting from three-point land.
McCollum is an under-the-radar addition to this list of names, but his $30.6 million for next season is something the Pelicans could move on from to free up luxury tax issues. Also, with the team in tank mode, he's helping them way too much of late.
Beal has a full no-trade clause, but his $50M being shipped out is the only way the Suns can acquire Jimmy Butler and his $48M in a trade. Beal has to agree to any deal though. He'd likely end up with a lowly team that has the cap space to take him on, like the Washington Wizards or Toronto.
Speaking of the Raptors, they are "highly motivated" to trade Brown and his $23M. If they don't, he's a buyout candidate.
