Warriors Trade Rumors: Proposed Deal Would Send Raptors' Jakob Poeltl to Golden State
The Golden State Warriors are known to be focusing on bringing in a big: insider Marc Spears reported on Tuesday, "they’re one of the most undersized teams in the league. So they’re trying to get a big—Right now the Warriors seem much more interested in adding a big to go alongside Draymond Green than another shooting guard."
With that, Toronto Raptors beat writer Ryan Wolstat has put together a hypothetical proposal that would send center Jakob Poeltl—having a career year—to the Warriors. It's a wild one, and it goes like this:
Golden State Warriors get:
- Jakob Poeltl, C
- Davion Mitchell PG
- Jamison Battle, F
Toronto Raptors get:
- Jonathan Kuminga, F
- Kevon Looney, C/F
- Gary Payton II, G
- Gui Santos, F
- 2028 Golden State first-rounder (Top 3 protected)
If the question is 'Who says no?', I'll immediately go on record as saying that the Warriors would be the ones to hang up the phone first. They really, really don't want to trade the promising Jonathan Kuminga. And if they do, you can bet there'll be a true star and difference-maker coming back.
No question, however: Poeltl is having a superb year down low, averaging 15.3 points, 10.6 rebounds and 1.3 blocked shots. He would be a great addition to the current Warriors lineup, adding offense and defense down low to a team that currently gets no production and zero rim protection from Looney.
Mitchell would be a very nice piece as well, providing staunch defense in the backcourt.
As for the Raptors, they would jump all over this deal, getting a very promising young forward like Kuminga, plus what should be a pretty good first-rounder by 2028, when Curry could be done or close to it. The only con on the Toronto side would be the fact that Kuminga is looking to get paid this coming offseason as a restricted free agent. He's made noises about wanting a max rookie extension.
Again, this is just hypothetical, and we'd be shocked to see something like this come to fruition.
