Raptors and Heat Strike 1-for-1 Trade

The Toronto Raptors and Miami Heat remain active as we quickly approach the 3pm ET trade deadline on Thursday. The teams have completed a trade sending PJ Tucker back to Toronto, where he began his career, in return for backcourt defensive stopper Davion Mitchell.

The Raptors also get a second-round pick and cash in the deal.

It's been a whirlwind few days for Tucker, who's been on four teams in the past five days, and traded three times.

The Clippers, who he was absent from the whole season while they tried to find him a new home, finally dealt him to the Utah Jazz on Saturday, then he was traded on Wednesday to another of his former teams, the Miami Heat, and now a day later he's back in Toronto, an organization he's never had fond memories of.

His stay in the Great White North might not last for long though, as the Raptors are expected to look to flip him before the 3pm trade deadline.

And if they can't get a deal done, they may simply buy him out.

Tucker was drafted by the Raptors in the second round in 2006, was never given much of a run as a rookie, and left for Europe where he played for five seasons. The Raptors re-acquired him in 2017 for 24 games, before he bolted as a free agent that summer.

It doesn't look like the third time will be a charm for Tucker in Toronto, either.

Mitchell is on an expiring $6.4M contract and will be a free agent at season's end. He averaged 6.3 points and 4.6 assists in 24.5 minutes per game for Toronto this season, serving as a backup point guard, and often as a starter as Immanuel Quickley has spent much of the season injured.
