Daniel Theis Bought Out by OKC, Quickly Signs Deal With New Team

The newest free agent on the buyout market lasted just moments, as center Daniel Theis was bought out by the Oklahoma City Thunder, and immediately headed overseas, signing with AS Monaco of the EuroLeague.

Theis played 38 games for the New Orleans Pelicans this season, before they dealt him to the Thunder along with a second-round pick, in order to get off his expiring $2.1 million contract.

The German-born Theis is an eight-year veteran of the NBA wars, also playing for the Boston Celtics, Chicago Bulls, Houston Rockets, Indiana Pacers and Los Angeles Clippers.

He's averaged 7.1 points and 4.7 boards in 411 NBA games, averaging 18.8 minutes per contest. He was averaging 4.3 points and 4.3 rebounds for the Pelicans this season, playing just over 16 minutes per game.

Theis Turns Down NBA Offers To Head Overseas

Theis, 32, is reported to have chosen Monaco over two other more significant offers in Europe, per Basketnews.com, as well as some NBA offers. Panathinaikos AKTOR Athens put forth the most lucrative proposal. But the veteran center wanted to play a larger role than what most of the other teams were offering.

The big man was a key member of Germany's 2023 FIBA World Cup-winning team.
