Milwaukee Bucks Get Tough Injury News on Giannis Antetokounmpo

It's not the news that the Milwaukee Bucks needed to hear, as they struggle to keep pace in the Eastern Conference playoff race. Two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo, who has been out the past week, will miss several weeks of action due to a calf strain.

Insider Chris Haynes says that Giannis will be out "two to three weeks", and it is terrible timing for the Bucks, who have lost six of their last eight games, and now sit 5th in the East, at 28-23, just 2.5 games up on 7th, which is the Play-in.

“We’ve just been monitoring it, and it just hasn’t improved enough for us to play him,” head coach Doc Rivers said. “If this was a playoff game, would he play? Probably yes. But this is not. And we want to make sure he’s playing in the playoffs.”

Giannis is averaging 31.8 points, 12.2 rebounds and 5.9 assists, and is doing his best to keep the Bucks as a team to consider as a contender in the Eastern Conference. Perhaps the trade deadline addition of Kyle Kuzma will help, and his arrival comes just in time to help with the scoring load while Antentokounmpo is out.

We certainly already know that Damian Lillard is willing and able to take over top dawg status in the 10 games that the Greek Freak has been out this season.

Overall, the Bucks are 48-53 in games that Giannis has missed since he joined the team in 2013-14.

The injury will also keep him out of the All-Star Game next weekend.
