Report: Luka Doncic's Last Days in Dallas Showed Signs of Impending "Catastrophe"

Luka Doncic may be "alternating between
shock, sadness and anger" in the weeks since the earth-shaking trade that sent him from the Dallas Mavericks to the LA Lakers for Anthony Davis, per ESPN.

But the Mavericks had no intention whatsoever, according to the reports, to offer him the five-year, $345 million supermax extension that he was eligible for this coming season. His conditioning and weight concerns were said to have led to the shocking trade.

In fact, intel from inside the Dallas organization indicates signs of an "impending catastrophe" for Doncic's career in the coming years.

“Make no mistake, the people who witnessed Dončić’s last days in Dallas do not paint a flattering portrait of the 25-year-old’s professionalism," reads the report from Sam Amick of The Athletic.

"They call him lazy. They talk about the weight issues that were such a frequent frustration within their walls. They mention the social habits that The Athletic has reported on — such as a taste for beer and hookah — which have been a point of concern for NBA types since he was a 19-year-old star for Real Madrid who was entering the NBA Draft."

They predict his basketball demise, highlighting a health history that, as some see it, will likely lead to catastrophe in the next five years or so.

Whoa. That's harsh.

In the meantime, Luka posted a triple-double against his former Dallas mates Tuesday night in his first game facing them since the trade.

For their part, the Lakers believe that "Dončić’s best is yet to come", writes Amick. Only time will tell.
