Report: Mavericks Offered Luka Doncic to Timberwolves for Anthony Edwards

Despite claims that the Dallas Mavericks did not shop Luka Doncic around before pulling off the shocking blockbuster sending him to the LA Lakers for Anthony Davis, we're hearing of a major offer they reportedly did make — for fellow superstar Anthony Edwards from the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Sam Amick writes in The Athletic that the two sides did discuss the prospect of such a deal, weeks before the Mavs sent Luka to LA.

While this spicy what-if scenario never gained any traction, league sources tell The Athletic that the Mavericks and Timberwolves informally discussed the prospect of swapping Dončić for 23-year-old, three-time All-Star Anthony Edwards in the weeks before the Lakers deal went down. More specifically, Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison reached out to the Timberwolves and asked if there was any chance they’d be willing to trade Edwards. He was promptly told no.
The Timberwolves, league sources say, were stunned that Dallas was contemplating parting ways with Dončić.

It further illustrates how persistent the Mavs were in looking to move on from Luka, considering their "doomsday predictions about his body breaking down someday soon," as Amick notes.

Instead, Doncic is with the Lakers, and in fact, beat Ant and the T-Wolves Thursday night. LA is now 4-2 with Doncic in the lineup, as he's averaged 19.3 points, 9.7 rebounds and 6.7 assists in six games. He's shot just 22.4% from three-point range. Doncic himself calls his play in Purple & Gold, "terrible," but no one is too worried about it at this point.

As Amick notes, it makes you "wonder how dominant these Lakers might look when Dončić is back to his old self again".

Meanwhile, AD is in street clothes for a couple of more weeks at least for the Mavericks.
