Insider: Tumultuous Summer Coming for Sacramento Kings
Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report cites that Sabonis meeting, and a host of other reasons that could lead to a sizzling summer, and not in a good way, in Sacramento.
There's certainly a lot of eyeballs and a lot of speculation about what could happen in Sacramento if, (a) the Kings don't make the play-in tournament altogether; (b), they don't make the playoffs; and (c) what would happen with this roster, this coaching staff and this front office? It seems like a lot could be on the table for an organization that has had nothing but changeover, turnover, hirings, firings, trades, all kinds of absolute chaos.
It's a shame, because things seemed to be on the up-and-up just two years ago, when the Fox/Sabonis-led Kings snapped a 16-year playoff drought, after finishing with the 3-seed in the Western Conference with 48 wins. But they took a step back last season dropping into the Play-In tournament, and being ousted from there.
This year, they struggled even more, sitting in 11th spot and under .500 at the trade deadline, and De'Aaron Fox asking to be dealt. The return, Zach LaVine and multiple draft picks, certainly hasn't brightened the future for the team for the time being.
"If you polled 100 NBA executives, there'd be an overwhelming consensus that the Kings didn't get enough back (for Fox)," said Fischer.
So while Sacramento gets Athletics baseball this summer for the first time, it'll be the same old/same old chaos with the basketball team.
