Mavericks Share Major Anthony Davis Update Ahead Of Play-off Push

Finally, some good news for Mavs fans. There’s growing excitement around the possibility of Mavericks’ big man Anthony Davis making his return to the court during the team’s upcoming four-game road trip, according to NBA insider Marc Stein.

Davis, who has been out since his Mavs debut on February 8 due to an adductor strain, has been making steady progress in his recovery. This week, he participated in multiple practices with the Texas Legends, the Mavericks’ G League affiliate, and reportedly came through those sessions without any setbacks.

Head coach Jason Kidd described Friday as a “positive day” for Davis and fellow injured centers Dereck Lively and Daniel Gafford, who also practiced with the Legends. While Kidd emphasized there’s “no timetable” for their return, he expressed optimism about having all three back on the floor this season.

Stein notes that Davis appears to be the furthest along in his recovery, having progressed to 5-on-5 play, while Lively and Gafford are still limited to 3-on-3 drills.

The Mavericks’ four-game Eastern Conference road trip kicks off Monday in Brooklyn, with stops in New York (Tuesday), Orlando (Thursday), and Chicago (next Saturday).

Stein, who previously reported that Davis is “very eager” to get back in action, suggests there’s a real chance we could see him suit up for one or more of these games.

Despite earlier speculation that the Mavericks might shut Davis down for the rest of the season—especially after Kyrie Irving’s devastating ACL injury—the team has shown no signs of giving up on this campaign.

With a playoff spot still within reach, Dallas seems determined to push forward. Currently sitting at No. 11 in the Western Conference with a 34-37 record, the Mavericks are tied with the No. 10 Suns and just two games behind the No. 9 Kings (35-34).

Even without Irving, a healthy Mavericks squad could be a tough matchup in the postseason, and making or missing the play-in tournament is unlikely to drastically affect their draft position.
