NBA Trade Rumors: Kevin Durant Linked to Stunning Trade

The San Antonio Spurs made a big splash at the trade deadline, forming a potent All-Star duo for the future by adding point guard De'Aaron Fox to join young phenom Victor Wembanyama. But word from insider Brett Siegel of Clutch Points is that they might not be done yet:

Siegel calls the Spurs a "dark horse" candidate to land Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant, when they start the expected trade talks for the future Hall of Famer this summer.

There have been whispers among league personnel about the possibility of the Spurs pursuing Durant and creating the best offensive trio in the league next to Fox and Wembanyama.

But it could be a costly move for the Spurs, as Siegel notes that they'd likely have to surrender young star shooting guard Devin Vassell in any such deal with the Suns for the 36-year-old Durant.

"While the Spurs remain high on Vassell's potential, he would present the clearest path to targeting a player like Durant or other big names on the trade market," writes Siegel.

"Vassell is a young talent who has come up in early conversations about possible trade candidates around the NBA this offseason."

The 24-year-old is averaging 16.5 points this season, as injuries have dogged him a bit this season. That's down a bit from last year's career-high 19.5 ppg. Vassel is only in the first year of a five-year extension worth $146 million (coming in at an AAV of under $30M).

The Spurs could also use Harrison Barnes and his expiring $19 million next season as a means of bringing in a high-paid star like Durant.
