NBA Trade Rumors: Klay Thompson Lands With LA Lakers in Proposed Deal
When Klay Thompson left the Golden State Warriors last offseason, he was enticed by the thought of going to Dallas to play with Luka Doncic. That only lasted half a season, after the stunning Mavericks trade that sent Luka to the LA Lakers.
Now what if Thompson could find his way back to Doncic via a trade to the Lakers?
Of course, the big question is, would the Mavericks even consider making another trade with the Lakers after the Doncic debacle?
That's the subject of this latest trade proposal from Greg Swartz of Bleacher Report.
Here's how it would go down:
LA Lakers receive:
- G/F Klay Thompson
- C Daniel Gafford
Dallas Mavericks receive:
- G Austin Reaves
- F Jarred Vanderbilt
So how would Lakers fans feel about losing their beloved Reaves? Thompson, in addition to being one of the all-time great shooters, also has four championship rings on his resume, assets that the Lakers' current third option can't claim. They were considered a team that was interested in him last offseason before he went to Dallas.
In addition, the Lakers get the much-needed young starting center that they've needed, in Gafford.
For the Mavericks, acquiring Reaves, who is having a full-on breakout season with 19.1 ppg, 4.2 rebounds and 6.0 assists, would allow them to bring in another playmaker, which would especially serve them well for the first half of next season with Kyrie Irving likely out. The two of them together once he returns would make for a potent backcourt.
Seeing another Lakers/Mavericks trade so soon after the Luka deal would be eye-popping, but this one might make some sense.
