NBA Trade Rumors: Shocking Reason Several Teams Said 'NO' to Butler Trade

The fact that superstar Jimmy Butler was 'out there' on the trade market from the Miami Heat was well known in every corner of the NBA back before the trade deadline. But yet there wasn't a groundswell of teams knocking down Pat Riley's door to try to land him. Per NBA Insider Jake Fischer, we're learning one of the reasons why:

Several rival teams backed away from pursuing the driving force who powered Miami to multiple NBA Finals appearances in the space of five seasons, wary of the HISTRIONICS that ultimately convinced the Heat to trade him, as well as the threat of Butler testing free agency this summer.

There's no doubt, of course, that Jimmy has triggered a wave of "histrionics" at all of his previous stops in the NBA, from Chicago to Minnesota to Philadelphia, and then Miami.

But the Golden State Warriors weren't scared off. We can posit two reasons why:

1) They're used to all the theatrics and drama from their own Draymond Green. And they won four NBA titles in spite of it.

2) Their first choice at the deadline, remember, was Kevin Durant. But when KD rebuffed them, they had to go to Plan B. The Warriors knew they needed a true star to bring into the lineup to help pair with Steph Curry if they were going to revive their flailing championship hopes. Butler certainly did that.

The marriage of the mercurial Butler and the Dubs couldn't be going any better. The team is 15-2 with him in the lineup, and he even set a new franchise record, recording both 100 rebounds and 100 assists in just those 17 games—the fastest to those marks in Warriors history.

And to top it off, Butler agreed to a two-year, $112 million contract extension with Golden State right after the trade, avoiding any of the potential free agency hoopla.

Sometimes, a little histrionics can go a long way.
