Shams Report: HUGE Development on Potential Kevin Durant Trade

We know that Kevin Durant was shocked and surprised to hear his name in the rumor mill as the trade deadline neared in early February. But it seems at this point that he's completely come around to the idea of a trade out of Phoenix. Insider Shams Charania, in fact, reports that KD and the Suns will "work together" on a trade this summer.

This off-season, what it would look like from my understanding, is that the Suns and Durant would work together on any potential trade to a contender. I would expect 4 to 6 contending teams with some serious involvement in Durant.

Charania says that the only thing that could prevent this chain of events from taking place would be a "significant run into the playoffs for the Phoenix Suns." If not, "real changes" are coming to the team this offseason.

That big run certainly doesn't seem to be on the horizon. Through 60 games this season, the Suns are 28-32, and haven't shown any inclination of being the contender everyone thought they'd be with their 'Big 3' of KD, Devin Booker and Bradley Beal. They're 3-7 in their last 10 games, and sit a full 3.5 games back of even a Play-In spot going into Sunday night's games.

Durant is extension-eligible this summer as he has just one year remaining on his deal, at $54.7 million for next season. He's averaged 26.7 points, 5.9 boards and 4.3 assists this year, while shooting 40% from three-point range. He's played 47 games while missing 13 others.
