Shocking Rumor From League Source: Another Jimmy Butler Trade This Summer?
As we all know by now, Jimmy Butler was dealt to the Golden State Warriors at the trade deadline, after their presumed first choice Kevin Durant put the kibosh on going back to his former team.
But according to a league insider, a suggestion has been made that would correct that. Per Duane Rankin the Arizona Republic:
Considering they had such a high interest in Butler -- and the Warriors still having enough of a love for Durant to pursue him -- a league source floated an idea to The Republic having the Suns trade Durant for Butler in the summer.
From the Suns' point of view, it's been apparent since the deadline that Durant would be on the move this summer. The two sides even acknowledged that they'd work together to find an appropriate trade.
Now, from the Warriors' standpoint, whether they'd be interested in such a move is very much in question, as the Dubs have ripped off an 11-1 record with Butler in the lineup. He has completely rejuvenated the team.
Butler has averaged 17.8 points, 5.3 rebounds and 5.3 assists in his 12 games with Golden State, and if they go on a long playoff run, it's highly doubtful the Warriors would want to change what's working and try to trade him.
The former Miami Heat star signed a two-year extension worth $111 million to stay in San Francisco shortly after the trade was completed.
Durant has one more year left on his deal at $54.7 million, but the Suns have been mediocre this season, with a 30-34 mark leaving them in 11th spot in the Western Conference, and they're looking to shake things up drastically this summer.
