76ers’ Season Takes Another Hit: Tyrese Maxey Ruled Out for the Year

Philadelphia 76ers guard Tyrese Maxey’s breakout season has come to an early end.

ESPN’s Shams Charania reported Thursday that Maxey, sidelined since March 3 with a finger tendon injury, will miss the remainder of the 2025 season. Despite efforts to rehab the injury, the 24-year-old star continues to experience discomfort, requiring further treatment.

Maxey was having a career year, averaging 26.3 points per game—topping his previous high from his 2024 Most Improved Player campaign. He was named the league’s Most Improved Player last season, then signed a five-year max extension during the summer. But his absence is just the latest blow for a struggling Sixers squad.

Philadelphia has been decimated by injuries, with Joel Embiid, Paul George, and Jared McCain all missing significant time.

The result? A dismal 23-53 record—their worst since the infamous 10-72 season in 2016.

With Maxey officially shut down, the focus now shifts to next season—and whether this battered roster can bounce back.
