Mavericks GM Nico Harrison Digs Deeper Hole, Explains Why He Shouldn’t Be Fired
Wait, did Dallas Mavericks GM really just say these things?
In his end-of-season press conference, the man who shocked the basketball world, and tore apart his team by trading Luka Doncic, said he actually didn't know quite how important Luka was to Mavs fans. No, really, he said that. Listen:
I am sorry... Are we living on different planets?

Mavs fans have always loved Luka the same extent as they loved Dirk. https://t.co/kNvsyDHXxA
When he was asked about the anger and outrage from the fanbase, Harrison responded: “I did know Luka was important to the fanbase. I didn't quite know it to what level.”
He then went on to insist that the team he put together with Anthony Davis and Kyrie Irving would have been a championship contender, and blamed the injuries (to both AD and of course, Kyrie) for the way their season ended.
Then he doubled down on the insanity, while answering a question about why he shouldn't be fired after this disastrous season:

“I’ve done a really good job here. We had a lot of injuries. Next year, we’ll be competing for a championship.”
Thoughts? 🤔 pic.twitter.com/vjRL159WUQ
“One, I think I’ve done a really good job here. And I don’t think I can be judged by the injuries this year... Next year, we’ll be competing for a championship.”
Mavericks fans rained down chants of "Fire Nico" over and over again as the season wound down, and it became especially intense during Doncic's return game with the LA Lakers in Dallas on April 9th.
Harrison then also insisted he isn’t worried about other free agents not wanting to come to Dallas after the way he handled the Luka Doncic trade.
This should be a very interesting offseason in the Big D (that now only stands for Dallas, not Doncic).
